The heating temperature for surface quenching and tempering treatment is generally between 780-820 degree . For weathering steel sculpture materials as ductile parts, 760-780 degree is selected. The key is to prevent the crystal from becoming thick and affecting the strength. The temperature control precision of aging treatment should be strictly controlled within ±5 degree . The insulation time can generally be calculated based on 1 hour/25mm. When beryllium bronze is heat treated and tempered in air or reducing atmosphere, an oxide film will form on the surface. Although the impact on the physical properties after the aging is not great, it will affect the service life of the cold drawing tools.
In order to prevent oxidation, it should be heated in a vacuum sintering furnace or in ammonia solution, rare gas, and oxidizing atmosphere to obtain a bright surface quenching and tempering effect. In addition, attention should be paid to minimizing the migration time as much as possible, otherwise it will affect the effect of the time-sensitive conditioning treatment. Thin materials cannot exceed 3 seconds, and general weathering steel sculpture parts cannot exceed 5 seconds. Water is generally used as a heat treatment material, and oil can also be used for weathering steel sculpture parts with complex natural shapes to prevent deformation.
